How it works

A quick test, a careful estimate

Words from every level

Your 50 words come from the 40,000 most common English words, from everyday ones to rare and literary ones.

Made-up words catch guesses

A few words only look English. Leave them unanswered: the more you guess, the less your lucky answers count.

An honest result

You get a number you can confidently claim, with its likely range, rather than a flattering guess.

Questions

About the test

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no email, no payment.

How accurate is it?

For most people the result lands on their real level, sometimes one step above or below. It leans to the careful side, so you can trust the number you see.

Why shouldn't I guess?

Guessing gives lucky right answers that make your number less reliable. The test measures how much you guess and counts your answers for less if you do.

Can I track my progress over time?

Yes, in the WordWallet app: My Vocabulary keeps your results and picks new words for each retest, around your last level.
